Series Guide

Ponderings, my insight into game design philosophy and theory, are sometimes written in series, as they are too long for a single sitting (both for you and for me). Because of the chronological nature of the blog, these series can be easily separated and difficult to follow (especially if I don’t link the previous/next segment). End of the Grindstone?
Synopsis: Grinding is an essential element to many games, especially games with timing mechanics. Requiring players to grind, or farm, however, has it’s drawbacks. How do we identify and reduce the causes of these drawbacks, while sustaining or increasing immersion of a virtual world?
